SPANISH KINGDOM

SPANISH KINGDOM (g, 3, Animal Kingdom–Mis Vizcaya {MSP}, by Successful Appeal), a winner in an 8 1/2-furlong Churchill allowance in May, was fifth–beaten a length–in the July 12 GIII Transylvania S. before finishing third going a sixteenth shorter last time out at Churchill Sept. 5. Sent off at 5-2 here, the gelding stalked from the three path going into the first turn as Churn N Burn (Liam’s Map) led through an opening quarter in :22.30 followed by a :46.63 half. Inching ever closer turning for home, Spanish Kingdom swung out to make a three wide bid, forged an advantage at the top of the lane, found some daylight, and held his foes at bay under driving pressure to win by a neck.

Spanish Kingdom’s dam, Mis Viscaya (Successful Appeal) also is represented by a 2yo colt named Leroy Jenkins (Paynter) and an unnamed yearling filly by Bodemeister. She was covered by Midnight Storm this past year.
