IMA PHAROAH (c, 3, American Pharoah–Im a Dixie Girl, by Dixie Union)
IMA PHAROAH (c, 3, American Pharoah–Im a Dixie Girl {MSW & GSP, $167,320}, by Dixie Union) finished second in his first four starts but finally broke through in this attempt to break his maiden. The dark bay contended for the lead but settled back into a stalking spot in third. He sat perched to the outside of the front runners, crept up late in the turn and was given his cue at the head of the stretch. He was kept to task by jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. and eased away to win by 2 1/2 lengths.
The winner is a half brother to multiple Grade 1 stakes winner, Mor Spirit ($1,668,400). Ima Pharoah’s dam, Im a Dixie Girl, was initially purchased by The Elkstone Group LLC at the 2010 Keeneland November Sale for $75,000. After the emergence of Ima Pharoah, the decision was made to capitalize on his success and sell his dam. She was sold in-foal to American Pharoah at the 2016 Fasig-Tipton November Sale for $475,000 to the current owner and breeder.
Lifetime Record: 5-1-4-0, $77,000. O/B-Charles E. Fipke (KY); T-Todd Pletcher.
