PAGO QUERIDO (f, 3, Competitive Edge–Lefreakcestchic, by Bellamy Road) became the newest winner for Competitive Edge on Thursday with a Maiden Special Weight victory at Laurel. Dispatched at 10-1 in the cut back to seven furlongs, the dark bay filly broke strong, quickly took the lead while opening up in mid-stretch and never looked back. The Pennsylvania-bred held on under pressure at the wire to win by a half length under jockey Sheldon Russell.

The filly hails from the great Phipps family of Grade I winners Val’s Prince and Goodbye Halo, Grade II winner Living Vicariously, Grade III winner With Distinction, and Grade II winner and Grade I-placed Sightseeing.

The winner has a yearling half-sister named Nice Shoes (Blofeld) and a weanling half-brother by Tonalist. Her dam was bred back to Lord Nelson.

Sales history: $65,000 RNA Ylg ’18 EASOCT; $235,000 2yo ’19 KEEAPR.
